What should a bourbon tasting app remember?
A useful scorecard starts with the exact bottle and your own reaction. Two expressions from the same distillery can taste very different, and a barrel pick can be easy to confuse with a standard release. Photograph the label, save a recognizable name, and add a short note while the impression is fresh.
SipRanker gives each person in your group an individual scorecard inside a shared outing. You can rate from 1 to 5, attach a bottle photo, add notes, and compare the group’s results. There is no app-store download: open your personal link in a browser.
A simple 1–5 bourbon rating scale
Agree on a few anchors before you begin. They make your own scores more consistent without turning personal taste into a competition.
A high score means you enjoyed it. It doesn’t need to match the price, rarity, reputation or anyone else’s opinion. For a less influenced first impression, ask everyone to save a score before discussing the pour. Group results are visible to everyone.
Write notes that help you later
You don’t need a long list of tasting terms. A few observations are often more useful than a paragraph: what you noticed first, what stayed with you, and whether you’d choose it again.
“Maple on the nose, a little dry oak at the end. Liked it more with a few drops of water. Compare with the other barrel pick next time.”
Include the expression or barrel detail when you can. Choose a bottle from the catalog or enter its name manually.
Set up a tasting with friends
- Create an outing. Give it a name and review who is attending.
- Share individual links. Each person uses their own link so their ratings stay attached to them. Treat those links as private access credentials.
- Open the app online. Load it before heading somewhere with unreliable service.
- Save your impressions. Add a bottle, photo, score and note. Compare favorites when you’re ready.
Start with a relaxed pace, water and room for conversation. The goal is to remember your favorites, not to record the most drinks.
At home or on the festival floor
The same group scorecard works for a private evening or an outing at a whiskey festival. After an initial online load, ratings can save on your device while offline. Keep or reopen the app with a connection to let photos upload and queued changes sync. Avoid clearing browser storage while anything is still waiting to upload.
